Talvivaara Management Changes

Talvivaara Mining Company Plc ("Talvivaara" or "the Company") announces today changes in the Management to reinforce and achieve the Company`s operational and financial targets.

Following the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on 26 April 2012 Mr. Harri Natunen has stepped in as Chief Executive Officer. To strengthen and increase the efficiency of the management work, Mr. Natunen has consolidated the former Executive Committee and Extended Executive Committee.

Also, in order to promote and achieve the primary targets of the Company and to improve the solid foundations for the development of Talvivaara's operations in Finland, Mr. Natunen has appointed Ms. Maija Kaski as Chief Human Resources Officer, Mr. Mikko Korteniemi as Chief Production Officer (Bioheapleaching and Metals Recovery) and Mr. Jari Voutilainen as Chief Mining Officer (Mining and Materials Handling). Previously Mr. Voutilainen worked for the Company as General Manager of Business Development.

In addition to the consolidation of the Executive Committee and new appointments, former Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Lassi Lammassaari will continue to work for the Company as Vice President - Strategic Projects. Mr. Lammassaari will focus on strategically important projects in the development and expansion of the Company operations as of 1 June 2012.

Talvivaara Mining Company Plc

Talvivaara Mining Company is an internationally significant base metals producer with its primary focus on nickel and zinc using a technology known as bioheapleaching to extract metals out of ore. Bioheapleaching makes extraction of metals from low grade ore economically viable. The Talvivaara deposits comprise one of the largest known sulphide nickel resources in Europe. The ore body is estimated to support anticipated production for several decades. Talvivaara has secured a 10-year off-take agreement for 100 per cent of its main output of nickel and cobalt to Norilsk Nickel and entered into a long-term zinc streaming agreement with Nyrstar NV.
